NEWater (Chinese: 新生水) is the brand name given to reclaimed water produced by Singapore's Public Utilities Board. More specifically, it is treated wastewater (sewage) that has been purified using dual-membrane (via microfiltration and reverse osmosis) and ultraviolet technologies, in addition to conventional water treatment processes. The water is potable and is consumed by humans, but is mostly used for industry requiring high purity water.
With its consistently good quality and reliability in production, NEWater could be put to greater use in terms of being a source of non-potable water and for indirect potable use by blending it with reservoir water.
The advantage of NEWater is that it reduces our dependance on other countieres for water. disadvantage is that the water was trested with alot of chemicals thus the weird taste of the water. if the chemicasl were removed from the water, maybe the water would not be clean enough for us to drink?
NEWater is the product from a multiple barrier water reclamation process. The first barrier is the conventional wastewater treatment process whereby the used water is treated to globally recognised standards in the Water Reclamation Plants.
actually is expensive la.but i think it is cheaper then buying water from other countries.the agreement also doesnt last forever....and the cost of water will keep increasing.
advantages:Because it is ultra clean, NEWater is ideal for industry use, such as wafer fabrication processes. NEWater is supplied to wafer fabrication, electronics and power generation industries for process use as well as commercial and institutional complexes for air-con cooling purposes. This frees up potable water for domestic use.
NEWwater taste weird, but it can increase SG water supply. It's a good way. But building the newater plants is costly too. People have to get used to the new taste of the water.
The water taste "weird" because its contains no salts and no minerals unlike our normal everyday water! Its not because of chemicals added! The water we consume daily has "taste" because of the mineral and salts which NEWater does not have!
newater taste weird

Advantages of NEWater: we have our own supply of water, we dont need to rely on neighbouring countries for water supply.
ReplyDeleteDisadvantages of NEWater: weird taste, expensive.
The NEWater is the solution to the shortafge of water if Malaysia stop supplying water for singapore.
